Januari 18, 1980   American music awards
 
Michael Jackson wins 3 American Music Awards in the catagory 'Soul'.
 
He accepted two of them for the outstanding prestations on his latest 'Off The Wall'- album: the 'Favourite Soule Single-' award ('Don't stop 'till you get enough'), the 'Favourite Soul Album-' award. As artist in general he recieved the 'Favourite Soul Male-' award.

Februari 27, 1980   Grammy Awards
 
Jackson was to be rewarded as 'Solo Performer' at the Grammy Awards. He didn't want to accept the Grammy because his album 'Off The Wall' was only placed ín the catagory 'R&B Soul', and not in the catagory 'Best Album'. He sweared his next album will be placed in this catagory.

September, 1980   'Triumph' released
 
Back from his solo trip, Michael and his brothers got back together for the production of 'Triumph', the new album of The Jacksons. The Jacksons produced the entire album themselves. After 3 months, 'Triumph' got the Gold and Platinum status.

Januari 30, 1981   American Music Awards
 
Again, Jackson recieved the 'Favourite Soul Album-' award for 'Off The Wall' and the 'Favourite Soul Male-' award at the American Music Awards ceremony. During his speech, Jackson took the opportunity to show his appreciation to Chuck Berry.

July 9, 1981   Kick off  'Triumph World Tour'
 
The Jacksons took their latest album on the road for the 'Triumph World Tour', wich started in Memphis, Tennessee and ended in Los Angeles, Calnifornie. The concerts in Florida and Alabama where canceled because Michael collapsed. 
 
The 'Rolling Stone' magazine concidered the world tour as one of the greatest live performances of the seventies and eighties.

December 1, 1982   'Thriller' released
 
Jacksons next solo album 'Thriller' hit the street. A true masterpiece with brilliant written songs. A lot of the production was done by Jackson himself.  Many musicians, such as Eddie van Halen, Paul McCartney and Vincent Price appeared on the album. 'Thriller' became a new standard for R&B- and pop albums.

'Thriller' became the most popular album in history. Selling over 50 Million copies it became worlds biggest selling album. Nobody before and afterwards has sold that much copies. 'Thriller' also set other records. It recieved a record number of 7 Grammy Awards, the video of the song 'Billie Jean' became the first video from a black artist that was broadcasted by MTV, and the video of the song 'Thriller' became the most groundbreaking video ever. The videotape 'The Making Of Thriller' became worlds biggest selling music-videotape.
